Provides descriptive records, subject headings, and classification numbers to facilitate the access of library materials.
Manages the content, design, and use of the library’s digital resources, as well as course related web resources to include LibGuides and other online tools.
Manages the library’s Primo online presence and assists in the management of the Alma integrated library system.
Collaborates in the design, development, and maintenance of the library’s web presence to include informational, instructional, and promotional materials.
Participates in library collection development and maintenance.
Oversees the implementation of interlibrary loan services.
Uses analytic tools to gather, report, and evaluate reference and instruction data.
Develops and maintains relationships to local, state, regional, and national library agencies and organizations.
Maintains professional awareness and knowledge of library services through reading and participation in professional meetings, and organizations.
Serves as lead for the acquisition, management, discovery and troubleshooting of electronic resources; supervising the Library Technician and other support staff as needed.
Serves as back-up to the Director of Library Services in their absence.
Participates in campus committees as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Library and Information Science or currently enrolled in an MLS program and will graduate within six (6) months from date of hire.
Two (2) years of professional library experience, including teaching information literacy.
Demonstrated ability to provide reference and instructional services.
Demonstrated ability to complete classification and original cataloging tasks.
Demonstrated knowledge of modern library processes, practices, and systems.
Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public.
Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication.
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and video conferencing technology.
Demonstrated ability to execute organization and department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of general office equipment, procedure and protocols.
Demonstrated ability to demonstrate effective organizational skills to manage multiple and shifting tasks/demands to meet timely deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience managing electronic resources and working with OpenAthens or similar authentication systems.
Completion of ExLibris's Alma and/or Primo VE Administration certification program(s).
Working Conditions
Anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 4:30PM with occasional hours teaching information literacy instruction classes in the evening and/or at outlying centers. This position also serves as backup for an occasional night or Sunday shift as needed.
Work is performed either in or a combination of an office setting and/or classroom setting using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. The Director will be focused on making the case for the progressive economic record and against the failed conservative economic policies by cataloging the impacts of progressive investments, conducting basic statistical analysis and archival research, and curating the larger public record. While the economy has increasingly become more rigged against working families over the past 50 years, conservative leaders have built an embellished and inaccurate economic brand using an increasingly walled-off echo chamber via talk radio, cable TV, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, ensuring their message dominates many Americans’ attention spans. With Americans facing this increasing onslaught of news and media content, it has never been more important for progressives to close this gap and build the necessary genuine arguments that break through the clutter and reach key audiences. The Center for American Progress Action Fund is committed to leading this effort with allies and partners across the progressive space.
The Director of Research will play an important role in this effort through producing analysis and research products for reporters, digital content creators, and progressive voices. The successful candidate for this role will be a leader in a growing cross-organization effort that builds and curates the evidence of the progressive economic case to make American Progress’ arguments more impactful, persuasive, and digestible for a variety of audiences. Strong candidates will have impeccable writing and organizational skills, the ability to analyze large data sets, and a librarian’s knack for finding everything from campaign finance records to corporate SEC filings.
Responsibilities:
Work with the Senior Director of Research to develop a long-term strategy and plan for the team’s effort to spotlight conservative policy failures and showcase progressive economic successes.
Help manage projects, consultants, and personnel outside of the research team to put compelling research together.
Quickly and concisely research and write products for public consumption on a daily basis.
Build relationships with external research allies.
Work closely with staff across the department to ensure that a research lens and approach are integrated into all American Progress campaigns and efforts, as appropriate.
Ensure all of the team’s and larger department’s content meets a high bar of accuracy and fairness through quality control fact-checking procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
7 to 10 years of professional experience with investigative research and/or in political communications roles.
Previously demonstrated team leadership skills and a high level of competency.
Ability to present and build unique arguments that affect targeted audiences.
Established relationships across the progressive movement.
Political experience on a campaign or with an advocacy group or nonprofit.
Strong understanding of progressive values and policies and how they intersect with the news.
Detail-oriented with the ability to juggle multiple projects for different stakeholders, often in rapid-response or high-pressure situations.
Strong familiarity with research and data resources such as LexisNexis, FEC filings, SEC filings, federal spending data, Quorum, and the Congressional Record, and familiarity with economic measures and statistics.

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, this position is responsible for the management of physical and financial resources, planning and implementation of programming and policies, teaching, community outreach and security of archival and rare book collections. The Archives is housed in the Theil Research Center on Hope College’s campus. The Archives has a strong record of mentoring undergraduate research and writing.
