Mapp Biopharmaceutical is an innovative biopharmaceutical company focused on addressing unmet medical needs through the development of life-saving monoclonal antibody treatment options to combat a variety of neglected and tropical infectious diseases.  The antibody discovery group is responsible for isolating novel antibodies that may be used in future drug products. This includes engineering and purifying the antigens necessary to isolate these antibodies as well as assessing the antibodies for their potential as therapeutics.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in a major scientific discipline
  • Authorship on multiple scientific publications in respected peer reviewed journals
  • Ability to work independently and effectively troubleshoot experimental strategies in the laboratory
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated excellence in the following competency areas:
    • Multiple PCR and molecular cloning techniques
    • Protein expression in bacterial, insect cell and mammalian cell systems
    • Protein purification, including experience with automated FPLC systems, fluency in GE Unicorn FPLC software is a requirement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post doc experience or other appropriate scientific experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in the following competency areas:
    • Structure based/guided mutagenesis of monoclonal antibodies
      • X-ray crystallography experience and familiarity with the programs pymol, chimera, and coot is a plus
    • Familiarity with virology associated with Filoviruses and other neglected tropical diseases is a plus.
    • Large scale purification experience and familiarity with endotoxin free purification methods is a plus
  • Potential to become a PI for future NIH/NIAID/DTRA grants
  • Understanding or experience in neglected tropical disease research


  • Performs primer design, PCR and vector design to facilitate cloning and expression of both antigenic proteins and immunoglobulin proteins (IgGs)
  • Optimizes expression constructs for protein stability, solubility and expression levels.
  • Purifies proteins of interest to a purity level that will allow for the isolation and characterization of high-quality antibodies
  • Evaluates protein expression across multiple platforms: bacterial, insect cells, mammalian cells (HEK293 and CHO cells)
  • Utilizes biosafety cabinets to work aseptically within a BSL2 environment
  • Performs structure based/guided engineering of monoclonal antibodies to increase developability profiles
  • Manages multiple projects concurrently in the laboratory
  • Evaluates new methodologies and/or technology for laboratory applications
  • Assesses the isolated antibodies for binding and activity
  • Maintains detailed records of all experiments performed
  • Presents effectively and communicates experimental results to the group
