PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Key to this position's success is the effective management and engagement of volunteers and volunteer teams. Provide functional support to Direct Services Manager and Leadership at a regional level or take full cycle responsibility to provide service delivery programs within a defined geography.  Support the Direct Services Manager and volunteer workforce to support local communities by providing services to include but are not limited to: response to recurrent local disasters (house fires, floods, etc.), capacity building for mass care service delivery, and direct assistance and recovery services to those impacted by disasters.  Develop, guide, and support team of trained volunteers, as well as implement and develop initiatives to increase Red Cross visibility through program/service delivery of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery programs.  Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.  Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations. Responsibilities: 1: Facilitate and support the development and implementation of strategies, initiatives, tools, plans, processes and procedures within a functional area, or, through the development of volunteer leadership, oversee the implementation of the full disaster cycle of an assigned geographic area and regionally. Functional areas may include: the Disaster Action Team, Client Casework, Health & Mental Health Services, Workforce Development, General Volunteer Support & Engagement. 2: Analyze opportunities for improved program service and make recommendations for implementation. Implement assigned programs or services to meet goals. 3: Support local preparation, response and recovery activities. Assist with a broader division and national network of disaster responders and help with deployments and relief operation activity outside immediate region. This may include physical deployment to impacted communities. 4: Engage and develop a volunteer team responsible for the implementation of disaster response, and recovery programs in the local area. Ensure the development of leadership volunteers in each of the assigned program support functional areas of the disaster cycle in order to meet the needs of the assigned geography. 5: Support local responses through the deployment of volunteer leaders on a daily basis in a rapid and accessible manner. Qualified and experienced volunteer leaders should be placed in key roles first. If volunteer leadership is unavailable, may service during times of disaster. Job Description: Come bring your passion for Blood Banking to the Red Cross! We are looking for a California State licensed Clinical Lab Scientist, with a passion for blood banking, to join our Reference Laboratory in Oakland, CA. This full-time IRL Technologist will perform specialized testing to serve our local hospital clients. This will be a 2nd shift position, with extensive training on 1st shift. The position is represented by a union bargaining agreement. As an IRL Technologist, staff can expect to perform (in accordance with standard operating procedures and applicable regulatory requirements) basic and advanced donor and patient tests, and interpret results to determine donor-recipient compatibility. Primary job responsibilities may include: · Resolving compatibility problems · Providing complex reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services · Performing automated and manual test procedures on blood samples Other IRL Technologist duties may include: · Managing receipt, coordination, shipment and transport of patient and donor blood samples and documenting supply and equipment problems · Managing reagent inventory (ordering, receiving, inspection and preparation) ·   Recognizing/resolving   testing irregularities and assisting other Medical Technologists in problem resolution. · Consulting with staff at other medical facilities, to resolve complex serologic problems and providing special units to transfusion recipients · Performing maintenance, repair and validation of laboratory equipment and software · Maintaining accurate records · Performing manufacturing duties associated with special blood products, if applicable. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry with MT or BB/ equivalent certification. SBB preferred. California State Licensure required by state. Experience: minimum of 5 years of blood banking experience. Management Experience:  N/A Skills/Abilities: Good written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
