What will you do? The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention (ACDP) Section in Portland, OR is recruiting for a COVID-NET Data Extraction Specialist to design and execute a large multi-stakeholder data extraction project in support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Emerging Infections Program (EIP)-funded COVID-19-Associated Hospitalization Surveillance Network (COVID-NET). ACDP is charged with preventing the spread of communicable disease in the State of Oregon through surveillance and epidemiologic studies as well as education and preventive actions.
What will you do? As the COVID-NET Data Extraction Specialist , you will develop, implement and evaluate pilot projects for data extraction in order to improve surveillance effectiveness across viral respiratory pathogen programming, allowing for real-time COVID-19 and other respiratory viral pathogen burden estimation, which may require multiple or system-specific approaches. You will study data needs within and across programs identifying areas for integration and means of improving efficiency. You will develop, adopt, and implement guidelines for public health interoperability issues in Oregon and collaborate with major healthcare systems and colleagues at other CDC EIP sites to share best practices and lessons learned. This position works closely with the Interoperability Director to support public health modernization initiatives.
What are we looking for?
Requested Skills
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field plus five years of professional level operations and policy management experience related to public health OR eight years of professional level operations and policy management experience related to public health.
Master’s degree in public health or related field.
Experience managing large multi-stakeholder data projects.
Experience working with health data systems.
Knowledge of research and statistical methods.
Advanced technical skills with proficiency in Excel, Access, Epi-Info, SPSS, SAS and FileMaker Pro.
Experience communicating verbally and in writing in a professional and diplomatic manner.
Experience promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment
