The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) was established in 1972 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to promote and protect the natural resources, rural economy, history and beauty of the Virginia Piedmont. PEC is a national leader in land conservation, land use policy and smart growth with its main headquarters in Warrenton, Virginia and offices throughout a nine county Piedmont Region that includes Albemarle, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Greene, Loudoun, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties. PEC staff provides technical expertise and organizational support to citizen groups and governmental officials on land use policy, land conservation, transportation, water quality, historic preservation and environmental issues. One of PEC’s top priorities is to promote voluntary land conservation in the form of conservation easements.
