YOUR OPPORTUNITY
In 2022, The Humane League launched the Animal Policy Alliance (APA), a national network of state and local animal protection and food policy advocacy groups in the US that include animals raised for food among their legislative priorities. Their mission is to unite to end large scale animal cruelty through policy change. To accomplish this mission, the APA works to facilitate sharing of resources and best practices, provide trainings, develop and coordinate strategies for public policy campaigns and provide the capacity building and support necessary for those strategies to succeed.
As the Animal Policy Alliance Program Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the growth and operation of the APA. You will be accountable for working as part of a small team to develop and oversee the Alliance’s member support and recruitment strategies, coordinate and implement the development of resources and trainings, coordinate APA members around strategic policy objectives, and publicly represent the Alliance. This position reports directly to the Director of Public Policy.
This is a full-time, remote position. This position requires domestic travel for an annual staff retreat, conferences, and to meet with alliance members, this is equivalent to approximately 3-6 trips per year.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Alliance Development and Support
Plays a lead role in developing executing the Alliance’s member support strategies, including hosting various events, trainings, mentorship programs, webinars, and other resources that will improve member group’s ability to effectively grow their political power and advocate for legislative change for animals raised for food.
Establishes and maintains relationships with APA member groups while employing a high level of emotional intelligence. This includes fielding incoming communications and sending updates to coalition members.
Advises on and contributes to the development of the APA website, and updates the website as needed. This includes supporting the development and maintenance of a resources database for local and state-level animal protection groups that will be hosted on the Alliance website. This database will include but not be limited to templates for legislative fact sheets, lobbying materials, action alert templates, capacity-building tools, and links to external resources.
Onboards member groups, including adding them to APA communication platforms, uploads member data, provides access to resource databases as well as other supporting materials and services.
In partnership with colleagues on the THL Public Policy team, supports the coordination of member groups around local, state and national public policy campaigns.
Assists as needed in the operation of a grant program for Alliance members, including communications with members about grants.
Uses and manages Salesforce to facilitate APA CRM.
Plays a key role in evaluating member groups’ capacity, capabilities, and needs. This includes collecting, organizing, and maintaining documentation and data on Alliance member groups.
Supports the launch of new organizations that will be members of the APA.
Communications
Manages communications platforms for the Alliance, including Google Groups and potentially Slack; maintains and updates communications protocols for the Alliance.
Curates content for and drafts a monthly newsletter for APA members.
Events
In partnership with THL event planning staff, plans and implements the APA’s annual national summit, webinars, and training events, including development, procurement of content and recruitment of speakers for these events.
Recruits experts and manages contract work with them in developing specialized public policy advocacy trainings and webinars.
Plans and facilitates strategic discussions at the annual APA Summit, as well as on APA conference calls, Google Group communications, and online APA chat forums such as Slack.
Other Responsibilities
Eventually supports the work of a (yet to be established) 501(c)(4) advocacy entity affiliated with THL and Alliance members’ public policy work. This will include tracking all time spent working on tasks for the 501(c)(4).
Tracks and reports time supporting the planning and coordination of lobbying activities, and potentially registers as a lobbyist, where applicable.

Compensation and Benefits

In 2022, The Humane League launched the Animal Policy Alliance (APA), a national network of state and local animal protection and food policy advocacy groups in the US that include animals raised for food among their legislative priorities. Their mission is to unite to end large scale animal cruelty through policy change. To accomplish this mission, the APA works to facilitate sharing of resources and best practices, provide trainings, develop and coordinate strategies for public policy campaigns and provide the capacity building and support necessary for those strategies to succeed.
As the Animal Policy Alliance Program Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the growth and operation of the APA. You will be accountable for working as part of a small team to develop and oversee the Alliance’s member support and recruitment strategies, coordinate and implement the development of resources and trainings, coordinate APA members around strategic policy objectives, and publicly represent the Alliance. This position reports directly to the Director of Public Policy.
This is a full-time, remote position. This position requires domestic travel for an annual staff retreat, conferences, and to meet with alliance members, this is equivalent to approximately 3-6 trips per year.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Alliance Development and Support
Plays a lead role in developing executing the Alliance’s member support strategies, including hosting various events, trainings, mentorship programs, webinars, and other resources that will improve member group’s ability to effectively grow their political power and advocate for legislative change for animals raised for food.
Establishes and maintains relationships with APA member groups while employing a high level of emotional intelligence. This includes fielding incoming communications and sending updates to coalition members.
Advises on and contributes to the development of the APA website, and updates the website as needed. This includes supporting the development and maintenance of a resources database for local and state-level animal protection groups that will be hosted on the Alliance website. This database will include but not be limited to templates for legislative fact sheets, lobbying materials, action alert templates, capacity-building tools, and links to external resources.
Onboards member groups, including adding them to APA communication platforms, uploads member data, provides access to resource databases as well as other supporting materials and services.
In partnership with colleagues on the THL Public Policy team, supports the coordination of member groups around local, state and national public policy campaigns.
Assists as needed in the operation of a grant program for Alliance members, including communications with members about grants.
Uses and manages Salesforce to facilitate APA CRM.
Plays a key role in evaluating member groups’ capacity, capabilities, and needs. This includes collecting, organizing, and maintaining documentation and data on Alliance member groups.
Supports the launch of new organizations that will be members of the APA.
Communications
Manages communications platforms for the Alliance, including Google Groups and potentially Slack; maintains and updates communications protocols for the Alliance.
Curates content for and drafts a monthly newsletter for APA members.
Events
In partnership with THL event planning staff, plans and implements the APA’s annual national summit, webinars, and training events, including development, procurement of content and recruitment of speakers for these events.
Recruits experts and manages contract work with them in developing specialized public policy advocacy trainings and webinars.
Plans and facilitates strategic discussions at the annual APA Summit, as well as on APA conference calls, Google Group communications, and online APA chat forums such as Slack.
Other Responsibilities
Eventually supports the work of a (yet to be established) 501(c)(4) advocacy entity affiliated with THL and Alliance members’ public policy work. This will include tracking all time spent working on tasks for the 501(c)(4).
Tracks and reports time supporting the planning and coordination of lobbying activities, and potentially registers as a lobbyist, where applicable.

About the Program:
The Green Accountability Project works to strengthen the ability of a diverse range of civil society actors, including in vulnerable communities, to access needed climate policy and finance information, participate in and shape climate-related governance processes and play important roles in influencing climate policy. The Project runs a small grants fund to equip civil society with resources to ensure fruitful engagement with public authorities to improve climate governance. The Project also facilitates a global community of practice to foster peer-to-peer learning, knowledge sharing, and the formation of accountability practices.

You will be responsible for budget and operations for the Center for Equitable Development’s Environmental Democracy Practice, specifically a $4.5 million grant funding the Green Accountability Project.
Your specific tasks will include drafting and monitoring contracts and sub grants, coordinating with international sub grantees on grant reporting, tracking spending, processing payments and expense reports, managing team meetings, and other tasks as assigned.
You will report to the Center for Equitable Development Operations Manager, and the Green Accountability Project Director will direct most of your work.
What will you do:
Grant Management (40%):
Manage project grants and contracts, including ensuring compliance with terms and conditions
Lead the drafting of financial grant reports
Coordinate with operations staff across WRI to identify other activities in six target countries where sub granting activities are taking place to ensure coordination, especially concerning government relationships

Job Highlight:
You will work with colleagues within each of the four pillars of FFWO to provide grants and contract, and financial management, for a diverse portfolio. This will include partnering with multiple project managers to develop and manage grants and contracts, develop budgets for new proposals, update project budgets, prepare financial and program narrative reports, process invoices, and manage subawards. ABOUT CASA DE LOS AMIGOS: This program has 2 locations and 20 beds, serving clients ages 12-17, who have been placed in the program by the Office of Refugee Resettlement Department of Unaccompanied Children's Services (ORR / DUCS).
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Engagement Specialist is responsible for the daily management of the program site. All housing programs are open 24/7 and per agency licensing requirements, program must maintain safe staff and client ratio to provide services to our clients. In conjunction with other staff, the Engagement Specialist’s task is to create a safe and caring environment for vulnerable young people in residence who are preparing to transition to become more self- sufficient. The position requires an individual who can actively contribute to a positive, stable, responsive, and responsible environment for change.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build trust and rapport with young people experiencing homelessness and housing instability, young people who have experienced sexual exploitation and/or young people who are at risk.
Engage, support, coach, and develop young people using healing-centered engagement practices and a strength-based approach.
Provide on-site supervision, while maintaining professional boundaries in providing crisis intervention and services to young people. Must learn and apply positive behavior modification techniques and model effective de-escalation, problem-solving and mediation skills. Be willing to intervene in times of crisis using these skills.
Complete necessary paperwork and data collection, including intake, enrollment, case notes as needed. ABOUT CASA DE LOS AMIGOS: This program has 2 locations and 20 beds, serving clients ages 12-17, who have been placed in the program by the Office of Refugee Resettlement Department of Unaccompanied Children's Services (ORR / DUCS).
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Engagement Specialist is responsible for the daily management of the program site. All housing programs are open 24/7 and per agency licensing requirements, program must maintain safe staff and client ratio to provide services to our clients. In conjunction with other staff, the Engagement Specialist’s task is to create a safe and caring environment for vulnerable young people in residence who are preparing to transition to become more self- sufficient. About the Program:
Launched in 2019, Cool Food is a unique initiative which brings together a growing number of food service providers, restaurants, retailers, governments, schools, and hospitals, and help them cut their food-related greenhouse gas emissions while serving delicious food. Over the past three years, WRI has been building Cool Food’s foundation. Currently there are nearly 70 members and the next phase is to dramatically scale its impact. We have set ourselves the highly ambitious goal of increasing our reach six-fold over three years.

Membership administration – 60%:

Manage the Membership renewals on a month-by-month basis

Work with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to implement and manage a comprehensive program to identify prospects and create strategies for prospective and current foundation and corporate donors
Conduct outreach to corporate ERGs/BRGs to build sponsorships, grants and AIDS Run & Walk team opportunities
Represent AFC at corporate events (e.g., select Out & Equal events, employee giving fairs, etc.) to support relationship building, outreach, and recruitment
Identify, recruit and retain ~50 corporate teams for AIDS Run & Walk Chicago
Develop and send regular e-communications to key corporate and foundation contacts
Promptly respond to all relevant fundraising responses and inquiries.
Work with the Finance team and Program Development Team to ensure corporate and foundation donor and prospect data integrity in the database by maintaining accurate titles, address and contact information, and relationships in constituent records
Keep current with latest trends in philanthropy and prospect research
Maintain and track AFC’s Corporate Partnership Program benefits package
Create and present HIV and AFC 101 presentations for corporate programs as requested

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications
1-3 years of experience in the development department of nonprofit, with at least 1 year of direct experience in prospect research/analysis
A high level of proficiency with Raiser's Edge, and other prospect research tools/databases, and advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Familiarity with prospect research best practices
Proven concern for detail, organization, and timely follow-through
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, to solve problems and meet challenging and changing timelines
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills, including a clear and succinct writing style
Ability to work independently and proactively and as part of a collaborative team
Highly motivated to achieve ambitious goals
Strong sense of self-initiative
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree and 1-3 years of experience in the development department of nonprofit, with at least 1 year of direct experience in prospect research/analysis

In this role you will:
Manage and track all government grants and other restricted revenue sources within the assigned departments which includes:
Responsibility for the coordination between Program, Philanthropy, and Finance departments in preparing and reviewing budget proposals for grants. Providing ongoing financial compliance related guidance and training for staff. Responsible for financial compliance for all assigned donor agreements once grant funds have been secured by monitoring all revenue and expenses, including reviewing allowable costs, related to grant funded programs.
