Job Summary
The employees occupying the positions of this class are responsible for performing and resolving technical and complex civil engineering tasks and problems within the framework of broad engineering and administrative guidelines within transportation. The Engineer I is an entry level engineer position in the Public Works Department. These employees operate from an office or in the field performing work under the supervision of an administrative supervisor. This is the first step in a career progression that continues to the Engineer II position and the Engineer III position. Engineer II employees work on more complex engineering tasks with less supervision and Engineer III employees manage the most complex engineering projects and are Certified Professional Engineers. The Engineer II position is the second step in a career progression that begins with Engineer I and ends with Engineer III. Engineer II employees perform tasks with limited supervision and require substantial use of independent judgment within the scope of advanced engineering assignments. Engineer I employees perform basic engineer work under the supervision of an administrative supervisor. Engineer III employees manage the more technical engineering projects and are Certified Professional Engineers. This transportation professional role is responsible for the review of land use and development engineering applications, plans, and reports for transportation concurrency, street and road standards. This position will be responsible to prepare transportation staff findings and presentations to the County hearings examiner regarding the required public improvements. Qualifications
Engineer I
Education and Experience:
• B.S. degree in Civil or related engineering.
- OR -
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years relative engineering work experience and possession of an E.I.T. certification.
Knowledge of: engineering principles, practices and the techniques and equipment involved; physical (hydraulics, mechanics, etc.) and mathematical (trigonometry, calculus, geometry, etc.) sciences and their application to engineering and field surveying computations and engineering design; construction materials, material testing and application; basic principles of supervision.

James City County’s General Services Department seeks an individual to perform experienced work operating and maintaining assigned County building(s), including equipment maintenance and repair, and carpentry, plumbing, roofing, and painting work.
Responsibilities:
Repairs and maintains building systems including planning, designing, estimating, and performing minor construction and renovation projects such as: wall framing and insulating; installing and finishing wallboard; installing doors and windows with locks and hardware, suspended ceilings, and various trims and moldings; painting; and, installing carpet, ceramic, or vinyl floor tile, or ceramic wall tile.

The Journey Electric Lineman is a non-exempt, hourly position responsible for installing, maintaining, and servicing the electrical system for the citizens and customers of the City of Fairburn.
Incumbents in this classification must maintain professionalism and courtesy when exposed to stressful situations; may be required to work outside their regularly scheduled hours; and be available for emergency and/or pre-arranged work whenever called upon.
SCHEDULE: Normal operation hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, with varied nights, weekends, and on-call duty, as required.
Job Responsibilities/Duties
Each position in this classification may not include all the duties listed below, nor do the examples cover all duties that may be performed. Under general supervision:
Climbs power poles, splicing and making repairs to energized lines.
Prepares, reads and/or interprets construction prints and work requests, as required.
Serves as a crew leader, completing necessary paperwork and material-forms, etc.
Installs, removes or repairs the following equipment on energized or de-energized lines in all types of weather conditions: anchors, cross-arms, insulators, brackets, capacitors, regulators, poles, switches, lightning arrestors, grounds, transformers (overhead and underground primary, secondary and services) URD switchgear, LBC cabinets, manholes, splices boxes and fuses.
Switches, tags, tests and grounds overhead and underground electrical systems.
Writes switching orders; performs and directs sub-station and field switching operations.
Runs new service lines from pole or transformer to consumer's premises.
Reconstructs existing lines and related fittings.
Phases out and cuts in new circuits; pulls slack out of primary and secondary wires; tests poles, lines and other facilities.
Trims trees to clear wires.
Installs, maintains and repairs electrical underground distribution equipment, such as conduit duct systems, boxes, vaults, switches, capacitors, transformers, streetlights, and concrete foundations.
Installs electrical cable in ducts or directs burial; installs cable risers; splices and terminates non-leaded high voltage cables.
After training, may be required to perform maintenance of sub-station equipment and assist Utility Electricians with wiring of substations.
Drives trucks and operates associated equipment as assigned; assists in the instruction and training of other new crew members in techniques of the trade.
Responds to emergency and scheduled overtime.
Assists in the training of employees, as required.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Education and Experience
Five (5) years of electric utility experience, and
Completion of a recognized three-year apprenticeship program as a Certified Lineman/Linewoman, required.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Possess and maintain a valid Georgia class B (CDL) license.
MANDATORY CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess or obtain (within 6 months) certification as an Integrated Transmission System Operator through MEAG Power.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in electrical installation and repair work and in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and transmission lines.
Knowledge of safety practices and regulations applying to low and high voltage electrical wires.

Working Conditions
Physical Demands: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The incumbent occasionally lifts and carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds and uses tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
