Job Summary

 

As a Crew Chief, your primary function will be to direct and supervise the North Parks Unit crew of parks grounds maintenance workers and specialists on Parks and Lands properties (both developed and open spaces). You will work closely with the volunteer coordinator and offender crew supervisors. The Crew Chief identifies repair needs, establishes maintenance schedules, and mobilizes crews to respond to emergency situations. You will be the initial point of contact for public concerns and will need to be proactive in engaging patrons to ensure compliance with the use of the facilities. Your work is reviewed and monitored by the Operations Manager through a review of records and prepared reports detailing work accomplished. Crew Chiefs contribute to the annual planning and in decision making of maintenance activities.

 

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities will be considered.

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • Four (4) years of experience in park maintenance or a closely related field
  • Minimum one year community college course work in landscape construction/maintenance or storm water facility maintenance preferred.
  • Confined space training is desired.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and endorsements applicable to assignment.
  • Possession of a Public Operator Pesticide Applicator’s License.
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector
  • Customer service training or experience preferred

 

Knowledge of:

 

  • Parks/grounds maintenance & operation
  • Preparing for and managing large events and multiple events at a single site or at multiple sites
  • Maintenance management planning & asset management principals
  • Playground Inspection principals
  • Hazard tree assessment and management
  • Trail building and maintenance experience
  • Principles of supervision including scheduling, prioritizing, assigning, and evaluation of work and employees
  • The occupational hazards and safety precautions of storm water facility /parks/grounds work as stipulated in the OSHA and WISHA regulations
  • Customer service training or experience
  • The application of principles and practices of storm water facilities maintenance
