Job Summary
Clark County is looking for an entry level technician to become part of the Noxious Weed Management team. This position is located within the Public Works Department, Parks and Lands Division, Noxious Weed Management program. This position will serve as part of a two-person team responsible for operating the county's spray truck.
Primary responsibilities include survey and control of noxious weeds on county rights-of-way and various county properties. Other responsibilities may include, assisting with implementation of environmental restoration and mitigation projects, and support of Noxious Weed Management Field Inspectors and Leads.
This is a single level classification working under the direction of a Field Inspector, or Lead. Incumbents work under close supervision and have clearly defined work procedures and practices.
Noxious Weed Management is currently seeking to fill a full time, 9-month, Weed Control Technician position.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, current Washington State Pesticide License with Right-of-Way endorsement, and a valid motor vehicle operator's license required;
Two (2) years experience performing a variety of noxious weed survey and vegetation control tasks using a variety of hand-held, mechanized, and/or computerized equipment preferred;
Moderate to advanced personal computer skills highly desirable, including use of mobile GIS and GPS applications.
Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
Knowledge of: Weed identification and control measures; chemicals and tools used for the elimination of weeds; Global Positioning System (GPS) mapping; application rates and approved products for right-of-ways, wetlands, and aquatic areas; state and local laws and regulations pertaining to weed control; personal computer applications.
Ability to: Clean and repair systems on spray equipment; safely operate required machinery, power and hand tools; read maps and identify locations; maintain complete and accurate written records; prepare required reports; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; interface with the public and other agency personnel in a courteous manner; perform tasks in unfavorable weather conditions; lift and carry fifty (50) pounds on a regular basis.
