Job Title: Mobile Service Associate                 

                  Mobile Service Librarian (with MLS Degree) 

Schedule: 37.5 hours per week. Please be available 2 evenings/week and 1 Saturday/month. 

Salary Classification: 9                                 

10 (with LATI Certification)                                 

11 (with MLS or equivalent)

Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Mobile Service Branch Manager, performs a variety of duties within the Mobile Service Department and takes the Library experience into the community, serving those who do not have direct access to the library.

  1. Provides a consistently high level of service to others by assisting with requests, or locating appropriate resources for the request.

  2. Drives and works on Mobile Library and other CCPL vehicles to provide library services throughout the county/ region

  3. Plans, prepares and presents to designated populations in the community quality programs such as storytimes, reading programs, book talks, book discussion groups and informative presentations on library services.

  4. Researches and locates materials through reference tools such as online databases and readers advisory services to order materials using circulation and ILL.

  5. Provides technology assistance (including downloadable media) and trouble-shooting for customers.

  6. Creates displays and makes suggestions for interactive learning and development activities.

  7. Represents the library in a positive manner to children and teens at schools, day cares, and summer and after-school programs.

  8. Selects and distributes materials to home bound of the community in private homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and community centers.

  9. Develops contacts and organizes new Mobile Service programs and services.

  10. May prepare flyers or other publicity in conjunction with the Marketing Department.

  11. Assists in the selection, maintenance and distribution of books and other resources to Mobile Service customers.

  12. Schedules and coordinates Mobile Service visits.

  13. Works at different locations throughout the CCPL system as needed.

  14. Maintains confidentiality of customers and their personal information.

  15. Works collaboratively across CCPL departments to conduct joint programming.

  16. Collects and maintains statistics on circulation, mileage and other Mobile Service activities.

  17. Professionally represents the library at community and organizational events that further the Library's missions and goals.

  18. Attends meetings and acts as library liaison on committees and organizations that further the Library's mission and goals.

  19. Fulfills Continuing Education requirements and stays current with Library developments.

  20. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's Degree (Grade 10); MLS or equivalent for Librarian (Grade 11).

  2. One year of customer service experience.

  3. Experience working with children.

  4. Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass a confidential DOT physical exam in order to drive the mobile library vehicles.

  5. Library Associate Certificate (LATI) or equivalent must be acquired within two years of hire (Grades 9, 10).

  6. Bilingual Spanish speaking is preferred.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Work requires routine physical effort in the handling of moderately heavy materials of up to 40 pounds. Work requires standing for long periods of time and some stooping and bending.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, libraries, classrooms or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations. It also involves everyday risks or discomforts which require safety precautions and adherence with the law regarding operating a vehicle over 10,000 pounds.
