Job Description

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY

This position will be under general supervision of the Fleet Manager. The Mechanic will exercise reasonable judgment in performing routine maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles. Performs repair work, diagnoses, and resolves breakdowns and other malfunctions including roadside repair in a safe, efficient, and quality manner. When needed determines to take vehicles out-of-service or put back in service based on current condition.

Additionally, the mechanic will monitor and record the status of company vehicles, equipment, and related items. The employee must have the ability to handle routine documentation and paperwork regarding Fleet Maintenance records or work orders. Regular full-time attendance is required during office hours. In addition to regularly scheduled hours, this position is subject to “on-call” duties and varying shifts. A valid Texas driver’s license is required, as well as an acceptable driving record (as specified in the current Vehicle Loss Control Guide).

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of Small Engine Repair or field-related course preferred.
  • Completion of an automotive technical program or automotive maintenance program preferred.
  • Texas Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
  • ASE certification a plus.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of hands-on experience in automotive or related repairs
  • Experience with commercial vehicle repair preferred
  • Experience using modern equipment (including computer tools)
  • Experience with industry-related tools and equipment.

SKILLLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Defensive Driving must be completed within 90 days of employment.
  • Computer skills including apps used in iPhone and iPad and similar devices.
