Job Purpose
The Student Success Data Analyst plays the lead role in supporting the data-driven decision-making functions of the institution directly related to student success and retention. This position serves the Offices of Institutional Research and Student Success by providing first-class reporting solutions and analyses to support improved outcomes for the College’s students and enrollment management activities of academic administration.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, mathematics/statistics, engineering, management information science, data processing or related field and experience with Tableau, Cognos/Argos, SQL , and/or SAS is required. Experience with data mining, including techniques of data extraction, documentation, analysis, and reporting is required. Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required: Experience with Tableau, Cognos/Argos, SQL , and/or SAS . Advanced SAS programming experience is preferred. Working knowledge and practitioner of methods and techniques of data extraction, documentation, analysis, and reporting. Experience in analyzing data and presenting findings using a wide variety of descriptive and inferential statistics, including customizing the results based on the research needs and audience. Proficiency with MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint and PowerPoint. Knowledge and understanding of the data and information that is important to an academic institution. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and to communicate effectively. Must be able to work well under strict deadlines and have exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must understand the significance of maintaining data integrity and confidentially with student records; knowledge of and adherence to FERPA regulations. Preferred: Exceptional organizational skills and experience managing and documenting complex projects. Knowledge of higher education information systems such as Ellucian Banner and related data systems and repositories such as Salesforce, IPEDS , US News, and CSRDE .

Summary
American Progress has an immediate opening for a Policy Analyst or Senior Policy Analyst to join its Inclusive Economy team. This position requires strong quantitative skills and a well-honed ability to use data to advance economic policy proposals. American Progress is dedicated to improving community safety and justice by developing, advancing, and amplifying progressive policies that create safer, healthier, and more equitable communities and provide second chances to people exiting incarceration; pushing back against punitive criminal legal system policies that cause disproportionate harms to people of color; ensuring that federal policies, programs, and dollars are implemented effectively, equitably, and in ways that create openings for more ambitious policies; and shaping and driving the narrative that progressive policies and reforms are good for community safety as well as the economy, public health, and overall well-being of the country. Conduct and support research and analysis on a range of criminal justice reform issues and policies, including compiling and summarizing information, fact-checking, and editing documents.
Develop, implement, and manage the production and distribution of a variety of written products—such as reports, issue briefs, columns, and op-eds—that advance the Criminal Justice Reform team’s work and translate research findings for a broader audience as well as memorandums for internal audiences.
Help design and execute quantitative and qualitative research by gathering and cleaning data, tabulating data and output, tracking policy-relevant databases and statistical sources, and identifying top-line findings.
Analyze pending state and federal legislative proposals, administrative policies, and regulatory changes.
Build and maintain relationships across the criminal justice reform policy community, including with local, state, and federal legislators; gun violence prevention advocates; and allied nongovernmental and policy organizations.
Engage in rapid response to policy developments as needed, including drafting articles, op-eds, blog posts, and social media posts and shareables.
Collaborate with other American Progress experts in policy, communications, and advocacy, including identifying crosscutting issues and projects.
Represent American Progress in external meetings with diverse coalition partners.

Responsibilities:
Conduct and support research and analysis on a range of criminal justice reform issues and policies, including compiling and summarizing information, fact-checking, and editing documents.
Develop, implement, and manage the production and distribution of a variety of written products—such as reports, issue briefs, columns, and op-eds—that advance the Criminal Justice Reform team’s work and translate research findings for a broader audience as well as memorandums for internal audiences.
Help design and execute quantitative and qualitative research by gathering and cleaning data, tabulating data and output, tracking policy-relevant databases and statistical sources, and identifying top-line findings.
Analyze pending state and federal legislative proposals, administrative policies, and regulatory changes.
Build and maintain relationships across the criminal justice reform policy community, including with local, state, and federal legislators; gun violence prevention advocates; and allied nongovernmental and policy organizations.
Engage in rapid response to policy developments as needed, including drafting articles, op-eds, blog posts, and social media posts and shareables.
Collaborate with other American Progress experts in policy, communications, and advocacy, including identifying crosscutting issues and projects.

Requirements and qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.

The main purpose of this Data Analyst position is to provide support to key research projects, working independently and alongside a dynamic team of researchers, software engineers, and staff at all levels. This work will require background research into health interventions, risk factors, and diseases to understand current knowledge about their impacts and pathways, as well as data extraction and analysis to understand current baseline intervention coverage, cost, and effectiveness/efficacy. It will also require Python programming to implement and test modular components for specific health interventions. We are looking for an individual who is able to independently translate requests into actionable results through interactions with research databases and scientific literature, formulation of displays of results, and development of complex code to be applied to a variety of quantitative data.
