Position Overview

The Division of Behavioral Health & Recovery is seeking to hire an Occupational Therapist for Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines, Illinois, to provide guidance, consultation, and training to non-occupational therapy staff; to serve as a consultant, both facility-wide and within the community, regarding occupational therapy issues, treatments, techniques, and equipment. To assess and document the occupational therapy plan of treatment.  To conduct individual and group occupational therapy treatment that addresses functional performance and role issues related to the discharge plan.

 

Essential Functions

  • As an Occupational Therapist, provides consultation, guidance and training to non-occupational therapy staff. 
  • Develops occupational therapy plan of treatment to include long-range goals, methods to achieve goals, anticipated outcomes, frequency, and duration of services needed to meet goals.
  • Focuses on the development of life roles and skills required by patients for community adaptation and integration, including skill development, self-awareness and maintenance of desired occupational roles.
  • Provides consultation, guidance and assists with training non-occupational therapy staff on methods and strategies for enhancing the individual’s ability to function within a given environment such as environmental adaptions, use of therapeutic and adaptive devices, the structuring of tasks, methods of cognitive cuing, the provision of corrective sensory motor experiences and the establishment of productive habits and routines foundational to successful role performance.
  • Documents all evaluations as appropriate including the individual’s progress and response to occupational therapy interventions. 
  • Consults with clinical team on patient status, treatment strategies, outcomes, and discharge-planning implications. 
  • Selects training materials for staff of other disciplines participating in the rehabilitation process of patients, life skills and role performance.
  • Provides clinical supervision in the form of direction, counseling and technical review for undergraduate and graduate students assigned for internship training and clinical practicum. 
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from a recognized school. 
  • Requires licensure by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation as an Occupational Therapist.

 

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to walk and stand for a significant period of time, including stooping, bending, lifting or exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm; 30-minute unpaid lunch
