Job Description: Climate change and disasters are intrinsically linked. The American Red Cross is committed to address the impacts of Climate Change on the most vulnerable. To this end, the American Red Cross has made a multi-year commitment to support Climate Change Adaptation at home and abroad. A Climate Program Advisor is needed to support International Services Department (ISD) efforts to address rising disaster risks and working with partners and the public to meet the disaster related challenges amplified by climate change. The Climate Program Advisor will provide programmatic support to field teams and units to integrate climate change risk reduction into key service delivery areas while also supporting the development of enterprise-wide strategies to ensure sustainability targets are set and met. JOB SUMMARY : The Vice President, Total Rewards will be responsible for leading and directing the Total Rewards function to ensure the American Red Cross’s overall compensation, benefits and recognition programs are competitive with market practice, enabling the organization to attract, retain and motivate top talent consistent with the organization’s strategic objectives, culture, and mission. The Vice President, Total Rewards will be responsible for research, design, implementation, communication and administration of all Red Cross benefits, compensation, recognition and retention programs to serve over 17,000 employees enterprise-wide. The incumbent will collaborate across all areas of HR including Talent Acquisition, Labor Relations, HR Operations, Organizational Effectiveness, Learning & Development, and Strategic Client Partnerships to create an engaging work place to advance the strategic vision of our different mission lines of service. The Vice President, Total Rewards reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and will be an essential member of the Human Resources Leadership Team (HRLT). This position can be based at our national headquarters office in Washington, DC, or from a remote telework location. For remote telework applicants, the ability to travel to the Washington, DC office or other locations throughout the country from time to time will be required. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES : Develop, design, and implement new benefit, compensation, recognition, and retention programs, policies, and procedures to be responsive to Red Cross strategies and competitive practices to support organizational objectives. These programs will be market competitive, cost-effective, consistently administered and legally compliant across all business units. Review and assess the effectiveness of current benefit, compensation, recognition, and retention programs to ensure objectives are being met and recommend/implement changes as appropriate, such as opportunities to consolidate, eliminate and/or develop new or revised compensation policies and programs to support new and competitive market practices and trends. Partner closely, communicate proactively, and provide consulting expertise to the rest of the Human Resources team, regarding all Total Rewards matters, to maintain the organization's ability to attract, retain and motivate top talent. Proactively communicate programs to key stakeholders and employees in general to ensure employees understand and take advantage of the Red Cross’s Total Rewards Strategies. Build, lead, develop, and mentor a high performing and engaged team of 20 expert Total Rewards professional, including two direct reports, who work collaboratively across HR and the Red Cross to deliver excellent customer service and programs aligned with organizational objectives. Manage direct budget of $3m and an indirect budget of approximately $10m in vendor management; and a benefits portfolio of $250m benefit program spend . Monitor activities to stay within established Total Rewards budgets, working closely with Finance to forecast and monitor organizational operation’s budgets related to benefits, compensation, recognition, and retention programs. Interface with key external 3rd party vendors (e.g., health providers, insurance carriers, consultants, etc.) to ensure programs are cost-effective, legally compliant, and appropriately administered to give employees the best customer experience. Responsible for recording keeping, compliance and ensuring data and reporting on all benefits, compensation, recognition and retention programs for proper governance and oversight including to executive management, oversight committees, the Board of Governors, auditors, and external government agencies.
