 The Oregon Health Authority in Junction City currently has a fantastic opportunity for a Mental Health Security Technician, with mental health experience to join an excellent team and work to advance their operations. What you will do!
The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of security and other support services to the programs and departments at Oregon State Hospital. Employees in this position assist with admissions, provide campus security, process mail, assist with emergency services, arrange transportation for patients/residents, and assist with patient related activities and Law Enforcement Data System reports and information.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Mental Health Security Technician (MHST) provides security and other support services in an institution. The MHST helps enforce fire, safety, and security regulations, assists with patient related activities, and provides training in security and safety.

Major Duties include, but are not limited to:

Safety & Security Functions:

  • Investigation of critical incidents, as assigned.
  • Routine and unscheduled unit searches.
  • Assist in various patient court events, including but not limited to: civil commitment, PSRB, medication hearings, JR. PSRB, Risk Review.
  • Conduct campus safety & security reviews and checks.
  • Perimeter security checks of hospital grounds.
  • Law enforcement Data Systems reports.
  • Monitor visitation and Visitation areas.
  • Using metal detector on visitors and patients/residents, to monitor for contraband.
  • Respond to all emergency alarms, including but not limited to: medical alarms (Code Blue), behavioral events (Code Green), fire events (Code Red), hazardous material spills (Code Orange), armed intruders (Code Silver) and other natural disaster/emergent situations (Code Yellow) via radio, phone and/or overhead.
  • Respond to PMT activations based on Access Control communication such an activation.

Reception Area:

  • Respond to information requests, via telephone, in person or email.
  • Distribute keys to staff
  • Contact Oregon State Police and other Emergency Services, as necessary.
  • Provide fax and notary service to staff and patients/residents.
  • Provide photo identification to staff, visitors and patients/residents.
  • Provide professional customer service to staff, patients and visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED & REQUESTED SKILLS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Six months of experience providing direct care or training to clients in a mental health setting; OR
Six months experience providing security services in an institutional setting.

Must have a valid Oregon driver's license with an acceptable driving record. May be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.

Must have basic computer skills and be willing to learn new technologies as they are introduced into the workplace.

You must be able to obtain and maintain access to FBI Criminal Justice Information Service (CJIS) systems, which is determined through a national fingerprint based criminal history record check.

REQUESTED SKILLS:

  • A high level of communication skill.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to people while interviewing them to gather demographic information.
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record.
  • A Certified Driver's License may be required in order to operate a large bus. 
  • It requires a great degree of tack and diplomacy. 
  • Experience in promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
